I grow curly kale, I start it off in the greenhouse early and then transplant to growing position. It is good for us to eat as well the first early leaves are good for salads. The big main leaves last from summer to now. I still have green leaves on the plants though they have stopped growing now we have had snow on the ground since the last week november. The leaves are now all frozen but the hens still eat them.
Is there any sound better than contented chickens rosey away, far better tha whale song!

We cut down the sprouts for tomorrows dinner today, desprouted the stalks, and hung up the stalks in the run, the girls went nuts for them, so there you go - sprout stalks - instant greens and entertainment for bored, cold chickens

Mine dont eat the stalks.  They love the green bits of sprouts, green cabbage and spring greens but the stalks are left like skeletons. Tried broccolli but it just sat there untouched.  Strange girls.

If you chop them up finely or grate them they can then eat them.  Their beaks arent' designed for eating hard stalks or carrots so they need a bit of help

I grow brassicas for me and the chooks. I also grow cima di rapa for them which is full of calcium.  You can eat it too  :)
