I love celeriac mash so I'm going to grow some in 2011.... I understood it was difficult to grow and as it was my first year, I didn't.  You've given me some encouragement to try!

I had the most delicious soup in a restaurant a couple of weeks ago - it was creamed celeriac, drizzled with toasted hazlenuts and hazlenut oil.  Absolutely gorgeous.  I must have a go at making some.

Lotty holder since Aug 09... I've FINALLY finished clearing it! On with the p.lanting  ....

I got quite good germination (in a seed tray in warmth) and planted 16 plants or so, but the roots are only tennis-ball-sized, which I'm guessing was down to not enough water? The 4 ones I inherited on the plot last year were about 7or8 inches across!

Pulled one today to use in soup. Flavour was stronger, texture still fine.

Dug up my celeriac at the weekend and think they they have suffered with the frost.  Managed to salvage some and made a gratin.  Must remember to dig up earlier this year's crop before bad frost.

Looking at local weather recording sites (on www.wunderground.com) it looks like we have had -10C for 5 hours a night on more than one occasion.

Have you guys had considerably colder than that?

My celeriac are in raised beds, so they do not have "wet feet" - the soil was frozen solid, but I had no trouble digging Parsnips etc - I wonder if that had anything to do with it?

Just curious why some people's cerleriac is OK and other's not - we must have all had much lower temperatures than usual?

Ah ... the airport near you is showing -15C for 19th and 20th December ... that's a bit colder than here!

pulled all of ours at the weekend -  a little brown in places and some soft bits but made soup with a couple and it was ace so prepped the rest, blanched and froze...

I'm going to try the gratin type dish.  I already make soup and remoulade with it!

We had celeriac gratin with chilli, made by younger daughter, at Christmas. Fantastic, much recommended.
When I arrived, there were so many docks, I thought it was Southampton.

Thank you ember, that was me! I haven't tried the gratin yet, but I still have celeriac left and I will try that recipe.
