The flavour is supposed to increase after a frost, but they are not supposed to be left in the ground once it becomes frozen. I have a few still in the ground which didn't get rescued before it turned really cold, so I'll find out when they can be dug/pulled if they are still any good. I'm not hopeful..

Oops! I've still got three rows in, but on the last look they weren't very big, so they can take their chances!

Hi All,
Mine where not very big when I dug them so to make best use of what there was I cooked them like beetroot with just the roots and tops trimmed off. All the skin ect came off easily and then they whent into the freezer for later use. Too good to waste.
Regards,
Chris

I dug up two this morning. They haven't suffered from the snow at all  :)
Only three left now though  :(

Must grow more of them next year!!
Cheers, Comfortably Numb.

Celery! :D But it has a softer texture, not crunchy like celery or carrot, perhaps more like parsnip... :)

Ooh, i like celery, just don't like the stringy bits in it.
Might have to see about growing some of that when i get my new plot.

I find them much easier to grow than celery and they're lovely raw or cooked in a variety of ways. :D

Summed it up perfectly  :)

They do appreciate a long growing season don't they. I sowed mine on the 5th April this year.

Why thank you CN! :) They do like to be in the ground a long time, our seeds went into Jiffy plugs in mid-March and the plants out into the ground the first weekend in May. :)

S'pose you have to start them a bit earlier being up there near the north pole  :D
