our first harvest
« on: December 09, 2010, 22:12 »
Evening all, as some of you might know we are new to growing and only started our garden project late in the season. We didnt plan on growing anything this year but found some plants in our local garden centre and they said they would be ready for Christmas so we thought what the hell  :) Well we lifted some today and are very proud of ourselves  :D :D I must admit they were very tasty. if i get this right pictures should follow. I have a question tho, some of the carrots seam to split a bit why would this happen ?
Anyway thanx for reading
A very proud and happy Ian and Helen

well done!
the split may be due to more manure/stones in the soil. If you are finding the carrots crack opened, then it might be due to the watering pattern.
picces pls...  :)
One kid is handful. Two kids.... Example for chaos theory. Hats off to my mum who managed three...

Well done, Aitch. If you can harvest stuff in the middle of December just think what you'll be doing next summer/autumn.

With a bit of planning it's possible to have fresh produce throughout the year.

Wow fantastic!

If it helps, I grew some of the "ball" carrots this year (Paris Market) and found them prone to splitting if I didn't pull them young.  So you're not alone!!

Have fun for next season  :)

Lotty holder since Aug 09... I've FINALLY finished clearing it! On with the p.lanting  ....
