Swollen Eye/Blocked sinus
« on: July 27, 2007, 19:39 »
Hi,

I would be very grateful if someone could help - I have just noticed one of my Kochins has a very swollen eys and blocked sinus - it is blocked with horrid yellow stuuf. She keeps wiping it, and although has eaten a little stas mainly in the coop.

As I am new to this any suggestions/help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Sara

Hi there

This sounds like Infectious Coryza. It infects the birds sinuses and eyes typically with a thick goey discharge. Probably a good idea to isolate, are your other birds showing symptoms? How long have you had this Cochin?
I think she may need antibiotics therefore a trip to the vet.

Good luck with your hen and keep us posted, I am sure there will be others to other advice!

I agree with Foxy. She definitely has an infection which needs antibiotics  :(

Hi,

Thanks for the advice - I have isolated her this morning. I will take her to the vet and see what they say!! I have had her about 2 months she is fairly old, the lady who had her was going to get rid of her (feed to the dogs) so I said I would keep her!!

Another sign of infection is if you check under the wings - if its unusually smelly then theres infection. They wipe the discharge from the beaks under the wings
