to be or not to be that is the question
« on: December 08, 2010, 10:38 »
to be able to pick ones Brussels sprouts for Christmas that is the question because as it seems a lot of growers farmers are not going to be able to pick there sprouts for Christmas because of this cold snap >:(

of course there are the freezer sprouts if there not all sold out and i suppose the fresh sprouts that are available will cost an arm and a leg. for those gardeners who have sprouts to pick off the lottie well your the winners

the down side to this cold snap is that quite possibly other winter brassicas may suffer like spinach overwintered cauliflower spouting Brock spring cab and so on that may send veg prices up after Christmas and in the spring

i wish i had grown my brassicas earlier and put some in the freezer but it wasn't a particularly good you for some gardeners for brassicas because of the early dry spell so we have probably lost out twice i am seriously contemplating growing more for the freezer next year just in-case :(

I don't like frozen brassicas - soggy  ;)

... but I have plenty to harvest on the allotment over winter.  Not quite sussed out cauliflowers though  :(

At least the sprouts are the one thing I can keep harvesting in this weather. I can't get to the parsnips, swedes and leeks :(
