Tomato plants dying - wrong conditions?
« on: July 27, 2007, 15:51 »
My mother in law gave me some tomato plants, they are about 3 foot in size with the odd tiny green tomato but as I've no greenhouse, etc to put them in they've been outside - is this why they are dying cause of the wind and rain?

they may be potbound - and / or the compost might not have enough nutrients in it - if fruit are setting - have you tried feeding them?

Tomato Blight - causes?
got home from work yesterday to find that 50% of my toms had turned brown.  Just see on this site that it looks very much like Tomato blight.  What causes it - is it too much of the rain we have been having?  How can I avoid it in future.  By the way, toms are growing outside in growbag - never had the problem before.  So disappointing :(

I've been lucky  so far with toms variety black cherry - I put some in the lottie and to protect them fenced them off with chicken wire covered in fleece about 2ft 6ins high. I never bothered to take the chicken wire fence away and they are growing really well the same variety at home are taking over - fruit is still small and green but hope this sunshine will bring them on.   :)
