Battery power slipping away.....Help!
« on: December 01, 2010, 22:31 »
Anyone else suffered a sudden power loss from their electric fence battery lately? I got a reminder today to recharge mine when I accidentally touched the fence and a farty little bold shot along my finger. ??? It’s a brand new battery……so is it the cold weather draining the power? Thanks for any help. :D

yes especially if the battery is placed on a lump of concrete or stone slab. Ideally place the battery wants to be on some sort of insulation so that it is isolated from the cold floor.
Staffies are softer than you think.

I've put my battery in a polystyrene box that I had my Christmas hamper meat in - it insulates it perfectly. You just have to make sure that the box is big enough not to touch the battery. I cut a saucer shaped hole in the top for all of the cables to run through.
There's nothing worse than cold temperatures to drain the life out of a battery.

If it's a brand new battery i would take it back to where you bought it & get them to check it.
Yes the cold weather will drain the battery quicker, but you might have a faulty one.
I use leisure batteries for work & had one that lasted a couple of weeks.
If it's not the battery it could be your charger.
