My weird cat
« on: November 25, 2010, 21:50 »
has taken to eating the kitchen washing up sponge, wet dry, in the sink, she's even taken to getting in the cupboard and pulling them out of there! Any ideas why?!
She doesn't seem to eat it just nibble it and leave the bits everywhere!
I came in from work and she had one, so i took it off her and put it on the table to throw away when i got up and she got onto the table to get it, i then put it in the bin and she was miaowing next to the bin for a good ten minutes She's being really weird!
Anyone else got a strange cat doing the same thing?!

I find younger cats seem to take a real liking to a specific object for a period of time. No real explanations, perhaps the colour or a reflection. Like my silly cat which constantly runs off with my specs when I put them high up on a shelf out of reach, or, at least I thought out of reach. Lost track how many times I nearly stepped on them after she finished batting them around the house.  >:(

One of mine 'owned' a conker - one particular one out of the several dozen around the place (i still have hopes that they at least put spiders off) and there was hell to pay if it got lost or stuck.  ::) Then one day - not interested.  The End for that poor faithful conker.   :(  Others have got obsessed with a raisin, a particular magazine which was the only place to sit ....

If I were you, I'd giver her one of her own.  She will go off it in time....

The actions are not unnatural just the sponge bit. :) She is using it as a sparrow plucking substitute sparrows being far more entertaining than cooked meat in bite sized chunks.
Have you tried her with a raw chicken wing?

My Siamese is like that with pairs of socks - tears huge holes in them and bats them around the house given chance.

I buy those rat soft toys from Ikea for her - they're about £1 each last for ages before she's managed to bit off all four feet and its head!

She even puts one in her food pot as she eats!

we have one that enjoys water and sponges, he will sit and watch a dripping tap for hours, or raindrops running down the conservatory window.

Love the video!!!
I just ont understand the obsession with the sponge at the moment! she has toys and water and food etc, just obviously likes the sponge!
If theres a letter or magazine or the smallest bit of paper on the floor she will sit on it! she's just a strange one i think!

thats not strange behavior, its within the parameters that pass for normal for a cat, ie anything goes.

Mushrooms are not safe in our house, neither are bags of any kind, shape or size, boxes they fight over and wee Evies picnic chair is owned by Merlin as is the box of craft material that was delivered on Friday ::)

one of our cats likes to join me when i am in the bath.he will lie along the edge of the bath and dangle his tail in the water or a paw or two. He even tried to get in fully, but as much as i love him if he suddenly paniced and wanted out! Ouch!

mine NEVER drinks his water.  Instead he waits for me to run a bath and he drinks that instead.  If he knows I'm not going to have one, he just sits there and meeows until I run the tap and then he drinks it before it runs down the plug hole.  Wierd lil' man :D xx
