I must be using the wrong tea bags,  they never rot down and I can pull carrots that have grown through tea bag 'fabric'.  I've stopped chucking them on the heap.  Cheers,   Tony.

I'm lazy, I just throw the bags (when I'm on the allotment), straight onto the ground - it soon breaks down :D

I always throw our used tea bags on the compost heap with no problem, they rot down great.  We use red bush tea company and co-op de-caff or clipper de-caf.
Always throw the coffee grounds on as well.

It's a good excuse to put the kettle on more often in the grounds of research!

I wonder if the speed with which the used teabags decay has anything to do with the ph level of the soil / contents of the compost heap?

Intearesting!!

I used to have this problem
I must be using the wrong tea bags,  they never rot down and I can pull carrots that have grown through tea bag 'fabric'.  I've stopped chucking them on the heap.  Cheers,   Tony.
but it doesn't happen any more. I thought it was because I started putting them through the bokashi system, but now I think it must be different bags. They are Sainsburys red label (all fair  trade)

I was thinking along the same lines Learner and wondered if it had something to do with the soil.
I use Tetley, PGTips or even Twinnings depending what is on offer  ;)
At the moment I have 1450 Tetley teabags so quite a large supply  :D
