Compost bins layout query
« on: November 23, 2010, 13:08 »
Hi all

Usually you see compost bins set out in a line, so you can access each one. I'm a bit short of linear space but have some space in a corner and was wondering if it would work laying out the bins:
A  B
C  D

so I'd fill A, then B, then D, by which time I've emptied A, then fill C but can get at the stuff in B from across A....

This is partly inspired by a fantastic woodshed I saw the other day...

It seems to work in my head but can people spot the Obvious Drawbacks?

If A is in the most awkward position, I would reserve this one for leaf mould.  Just keep piling it in and leaving it for a couple of years.   Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Have you considered what happens when you want to turn a heap? I find it preferable to turn a heap into an adjacent bin and being right hand going from left to right is easiest for me.
If you always have one empty bin you appear to have the option of always turning a heap from left to right by going anti clockwise. (or reverse it if lefthanded)
