Feeding Maize
« on: November 16, 2010, 21:19 »
Hi Fellow Forum Members

My three chicks are only 6 weeks old and I have occasionally fed them some maize recently  but from reading pages on the forum that this may not be a good choice. Reason I ask is a friend let me have three sacks of maize at the weekend and I hope to feed this to them in addition to the growers. Also thinking of introducing them to crushed oyster shell from about 12 weeks. Any thoughts?

Maize is great for finishing table birds and a few kernels are ok for a treat for layers. One sack of maize would last for years with my 3 layers. :)

I understood that too much maize is not good and should be fed only occasionally, personally I would stick to the chick feed, with an occasional treat, so your corn will last years I am afraid.
