Ingrowing ivy
« on: November 15, 2010, 16:29 »
Please does anyone know of a method to kill ivy?

It has grown all over a boundary wall and has infiltrated the wall with big thick stems. This has accounted for much of the damage in the recent gales because the old stone walls have been pushed apart and weakened. Although a lot of it has died after being cut at ground level some has taken hold in the stonework and is thriving.

Any ideas gratefully received  :)

Can you still buy roundup in UK - wouldn't that do it?

When on holiday in NZ a year or so back we stayed in a B&B that made a feature of its ivy. It had pushed its way though the wall and into the house, so they encouraged it along the inside walls by attaching it with vine eyes! Am wondering if the house will still be there in the future should we return!

Good thinking catlar; I will try roundup.

I should think that house in NZ has redesigned itself by now. What madness

We inherited ivy covered walls when we got this house, the out houses and fences in particular were suffering badly, we haven't used any chemicals just cutting down and pulling out seems to be working :D
