MY EX BATS ARE PICKING ON THE ORIGINAL YOUNGER CHUCKS
« on: November 12, 2010, 18:47 »
I have just put 6 ex-battery hens in with my 6 month old chicks (separated by wire partition) but they do get together now and then and spin the babies round by there necks so as a result the babies are now petrified by them if the get together in the day. They seem to be peaceful and all go to sleep together at night. How long should we keep them apart and will they bats ever stop attacking them?

sadly ex batts have had such a hard life and have had to fight all others to get anything, whether it is space or food. They have had to fight or be bottom of the pack. I would keep both sets of birds seperate for a while longer until the young ones are more able to cope.
Staffies are softer than you think.

I had some ex batts and although quiet to start with they changed into demons, they bullied all the other girls even jumping on their backs and biting them.  I had a friend with some ex batts and eventually had to re-home mine with her larger collection which calmed down their tendencies and restored peace to my brood. alison
