Keeping Mr Raynard at bay
« on: November 08, 2010, 21:36 »
Does anyone know if dog poo would be good around the perimeter of the run, sounds yucky but we have a new pup with tiny poo and just wandered if I scattered a few small bits aroun d the outside of course, whether this would help deter foxes?  alison

I have heard that male human urine deters the fox so ask your husband to feel free to take his bed time pee outside! Also that human hair keeps deer out and that so might serve for the fox as well, might be worth a try...pop along to your local hairdressers... I sure they would be more than willing to part with their end of day sweepings. Also if you love to sew a pincushion filled with human hair keeps your pins sharp and well oiled.

I tie old tights filled with human hair to my runs and despite being in the middle of nowhere with loads of foxes I haven't had a visit. Of course I cannot guarantee that it is to do with the hair!!!!!!!! :)

I would think that an infra red motion detector connected to a radio (talk programme) would do the job well. :)

My mum used to be a hairdresser and one of her clients took a big bag of human hair home every week to deter deer so might be worth a try with foxes.

I also put human hair in tights and tie them round the run and so far I haven't had any foxes to visit.  Not sure how often I should replace the hair, does anyone know???  :)

I've wondered about this as weather and fresh air must take away any smell eventually! :)

Oh dear, won't bother with the dog poo then, but will visit the hairdressers to get a bag of hair, anything is worth a try as I dread a visit from the fox, and my neighbour told me he saw one on the path outside his fence a few days, which is very worrying, plus I know full well our fencing won't keep him out.  I must get hubby to make a better fence when he gets back home (working away at the mo). alison

There have been other posts on here recommending a radio on a talk station and a flashing light. I think you can get purpose made ones from poultry requisites suppliers. Sorry big word for this time in the morning for me but couldn't think how else to express it. Old age y'know!!
