!@£$%&^%$£@! cats
« on: October 29, 2010, 11:24 »
This morning I opened my curtain to check up on the raised bed with expensive roof cover I had assembled two days ago. I was still half asleep when I realized that the roof had blown off and a cat was sitting on my bed. AAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrggggggggh! I thought. So I ran outside in my half asleep troll mode and yelled and flapped at it by which point It was on the neighbours wall and then ran away.

I figured I need to secure the pvc roof frame thing with bricks on the inside or something better than the metal pegs that were provided. I also figured that I need a good cat repellent. I just found this: http://www.deteracat.co.uk/cat-repellent-crystals.html
and it looks ok but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it or is there anything better I could use?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the cat had dug about the bed and basically ruined everything in it.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Please be aware all, that there are many pet owners who read these forums and as such this discussion should not degenerate into an anti-cat thread. Any such opinion is not shared by the moderating team.

What you need to do is get a cat, that will deter the neighbours cat. It probably thought it was a giant litter tray
Hurray finally retired

Or just get a dog, cats wont go anywhere near your garden if they think there are dogs about :D
If you want to be happy for a short time - get drunk.

If you want to be happy for a long time - fall in love.

If you want to be happy forever - take up gardening!

Except mine who have trained the neighbours dog......

Cats hate lemon, pepper & eggshells broken on the ground. Scatter them around the bed and it will help keep kitty away in future. If still persistent I would get a water pistol. The cat will soon learn not to come digging if it gets a soaking  :)

Yeah, I have one that likes water too and tries to shower and bathe with me - but most are not fans so hopefully it will work  ::) Most "normal"  ;) cats are adverse to being pelted with a water pistol  :)

My landlord is against dogs  :(
I've never been a cat fan but don't want to harm them...just their owners (Joke :tongue2:). The cats round here are constantly at it and it keeps me awake. Anyway that's besides the point...
Thanks for those tips Caralou :)

When you say   "the cats are constantly at it" ,  what do you mean, exactly ?

Seen this type of thread before and, though an ardent cat lover, I still sympathise with you. A nice newly-dug bit of ground will suit them no end, as will a sprinkling of used cat litter on it - mmmm - my toilet place! I also use a stretch of clematis netting secured over my raised beds after sowing / planting so they don't dig the patch up - seems to work for me. Work with the cats and not against them as they are determined little creatures - especially torties!!!  :tongue2: :tongue2: :tongue2:
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
