As I have now lost a full stone in weight, I consider the allotment has paid for itself.

Still don't know how as all I do most of the time is talk. Maybe its the walking up and down and round and round.

Well Done Eristic!!!!

I use going to the allotment as part of my 'fitness regime' - beats doing step videos in front of the telly!

Lost approaching 2 stone since February, which I attribute to walking 30mins each way to and from plot, and being active on it.  :!:

I'm still the same weight as I was in pre-lottie days, but now its all muscle ( I've got biceps like Arnie !! )
....and talking of the plot paying for itself.
I charge Ms.Novice £1.00 everytime I bring produce home. She gets a bargain bag of fresh fruit and veggies, and I get the funds for seeds / fleece / netting / canes / molasses (   ) and other lottie related expenditure.

I can't say I've lost any weight really, but I've stopped growing - which is some victory!
The government report into allotments (there's a link to it in links) went quite heavily into the health benefits, both physical and mental.
I also like the social benefit of mixing different age, race and income groups in a shared activity.

What a fantastic idea - charging the mrs for my produce - I too have lost just over a stone - this is a combination of working the plot and the quantity of courgette and spinach soup Im eating at the minute.

Wonder if I could try that one on OH?  Okay, my expenditure on seeds this year was more than ever, but think of all that lovely veg.  I mean, around here, even from a barrow out the front of someone's house a cabbage is 45p, well, after a year, I'll have had over 70 of them, apart from the toms, cues, etc etc.

Oh Brian...........

Think I will have to pay people to take my courgettes and runner beans because of the glut, not the other way round!

Don't you have any friends, relations, neighbours fishwife?  My friend Sharon loves it when she gets a bag of something, usually cabbage, cucumber and courgettes, but she doesn't care, then my bro and SIL will get some Sunday, my step son and family also Sunday, then if I get desperate the next doors.  Not forgetting the dog and the freezer.  Dog absolutely loves raw courgettes, cucumber and tomatoes!!!  See how fit and well she looks on the avatar???  Its all that veg!  Mind you, don't stand too close with a lighted match!!!! lol
