Sending good vibes from us too Mary!  I think prognosis (sp?) sounds good.  Apart from his foot he sounds normal!

Beefy has a big bump on his foot which I lanced but no mess came out only I couldn't stop the blood.  Had it done up for ages.  But I won't touch it anymore, he is well and happy, just got this horrible lump on his foot, but I'm not messing with it again.

Good luck to you both!!!

I brought my boy home again!! The vet has put him on Baytril for 5 days, its already in the syringes for me to just pop in his mouth. The vet did one, I just opened his beak and she popped it in. He was so very good, it amazed the vet. I told her I could do anything with him, but didnt think she believed me until that point! We've got to take him back on Monday afternoon, so she can check his progress. The total fee for 2 visits and the antibiotics? 16 euros, just over 12 quid. Now that's what I call a good deal!
Monty's just getting over his ordeal quietly now. Its a lot for a bird to deal with!
Thanks so much you wonderful ,lot for your good wishes.

Mary.

I missed the original as well, Mary, but am so glad to hear Monty made it home. It's so easy to imagine the worst outcome but what a relief when we're given another chance. Let's hope for the all clear once the Baytril has done it's job. Nice one!

Mary.

We also ended up at the vets today - very poorly cat, another day and it might have been too late.  Our bill was more but he had loads done and loads of medicine to come home with and she decided NOT to do some stuff which would have been standard in the UK.  French vets do seem pretty good, when we first came here we noticed the drop in prices for a visit.

Good luck Mary

In greece the vet charged me 120 euros (about £80 at the time) for keeping my cat at the vets for 3 days while having transfusions, then daily injections for a week and all the required blood tests when my cat had leukemia. How cheap was that :)
Even the ordinary kitten vaccinations were peanuts compared with here.

I honestly think that UK vets charge a lot more because, as a pet mad nation, we just pay whatever they decide to charge   :(

I've only just seen this thread Mary.  I'm so pleased you've brought your boy home with you.  Fingers crossed the Baytril does the business for him.  At least he's full of the fighting spirit too and is doing all he can with ensuring he's well rested and fed!

As an aside, I do wish our vets were cheaper over here.  When I took my girl to the vet with Bumblefoot it was £25 consultation and then they were going to charge £61 for the Baytril!  I managed to get it on line for just over £40 but it is still such a lot of money.
