saving the ground
« on: October 13, 2010, 16:56 »
Im lucky that i have a very big garden and im able to give my girls a big run, but over the last week ive noticed that the run is getting damaged due to there endless scratching and wot with the ground being damp in the mornings from the frost have realised that i need to start saving the ground ready for spring, so ive had to reign them in somewhat to there utter disgust.   Its great in the spring/summer as i can alternate there runs but wot with the grass growing slower and slower its not possible now.   So ive decided to make there run alot smaller and allow them to free range in the big garden late afternoon.   Hows all your runs holding up wot with winter around the corner       nickyx

at the moment my garden is fine, but it will get muddy where the coops open later on in the year. I think I may move mine this weekend to another patch to give this ground time to recover a little bit.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Mine is ok at the moment - still quite a lot of grass.  During the winter it does get very muddy but will fence some off inside and resow it in the early spring.

Wilkinsons doing 75% off grass seed to make way for Christmas stuff. All you've got to do is stop the chickens from eating it  :D
