onion bedfordshire champion

Has anyone tried this variety in Bedfordshire - bought some seed for next season, but have had mixed comments from the old boys on the allotments - most seem to think the strain has lost its strength. Jane

Can't comment on growing in Bedfordshire.
Well worth trying though as the flavour is good & they Store superbly.
They grow very well here in Gloucestershire, and are a must have in my onion bed.
MY BACKS ACHING!!!!!!! AGAIN!!!!

You do have to be careful with the old boys on the allotment - sometimes they have lost their sense of taste as well  :D

we grow bedforshire champion from seed,

start them off in seed trays ,and allow to grow to about 9-12 inches,

score a shallow trough about 2 injches deep across the allotment where they going ,

lay the onions in and cover the roots with soil about 9 inches apart ,

allowing the onions to be about 45 degees from the soil ,

the onions will pick themselfs up straight in about a week or two

water regular ,

they keep , well mild flavour , a great onion ,

Best advice: Grow them yourself and find out yourself.

Don't believe everything you are told, especially by the old boy's on the allotment.

You be telling us that there is an annual show on the allotment next and the ol' boys like winning the biggest onion prize next.

what part of beds are you in veggirl, they grow well here in south beds, they grow  big but lack flavour, I dont think they have changed flavour over the years but more onions are now available that have a lot more flavour so perceptions have changed
