overwintering aubergines
« on: October 10, 2010, 11:46 »
I plan to try to keep a couple of fairly prolific peppers over the winter and wondered if I can do the same with aubergines. I had two plants this year (Moneymaker) bought as young plants. One gave me five large (shop sized) fruit, the other nothing. I figured they've paid for themselves on average, so if I could keep them over, I'd have a head start for once...

Aubergines are perennial plants so in the right conditions will keep going -

I tried this last year and it was still going strong by January (this year) but the really bad winter finally put paid to it as it was in an unheated conservatory that is usually frost free but obviously not last winter....

I may give it a go this year and bring them in the house along with my chillies.
