I do love winter warming food!! Though I have the slow cooker out and am cooking that kinda thing even in the Summer, all it takes is a grey and rainy day and it feels like the right thing to do!

This weekend was a weekend of hot chilli as myself and the OH are fighting off colds, but last week it was haggis neeps n tatties, and the week before hand was rich beef and mushroom stew with cream.
I'm thinking next week might be lamb shoulder done in tomatoes and red wine in the slow cooker, with shallots and carrots.
mmm

Our first 'winter warmer' was yesterday - usually a roast on Sunday but, as we were going out and I wasn't sure what time we'd be back I put together a rich lamb casserole with red wine, and lots of scrummy leeks and carrots, served with copius amounts of creamed potatoes, followed by ginger and spice magic pudding (you know - the one's where when they're cooked they form a fab sauce at the bottom of the dish) - meals like that make wet Sundays more bearable (though son No1 wants his roast back next week!)

What is this spice pudding of which you speak? We want to be intoduced to the magic.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

We're having a good old broth today, with plenty pulses and home grown veg in it, accompanied by a loaf of home-made bread. Mmmmmmm.

Noshed, it's one of those puddings that looks completely wrong when it goes in the oven and comes out wonderfully - a soft sponge type mix into the bottom of the dish, then a rather large amount of sugar sprinkled over that, then a few dots of butter, and then....... 500mls of boiling water poured over the top - can't tell you how dreadful and wrong it looks before it's cooked, but shove it in the oven for half an hour, and hey presto, perfect pud! I'll put the recipe on here if anyone wants it. Jude.
