hi everyone! As i am a complete novice at this i would like your advice! When my hens start to lay - are the first eggs edible? Or are the first eggs disposed of ? Many thanks!

your lohmans were originally bred for batterys. Now many farmers free range with them as they lay prolifically for about 2 years. Mostly lohmans lay firm eggs from the begining and yes they are edible. If and I say if as not many do you have soft shells then although edible the membrane is pourous.

I ate mine from the begining and now realise that although those were great 5 months further down the line mine are so creamy and delicious. Good luck

Eat them and enjoy them. There is nothing quite like your first new layed egg.
