GRASS SNAKE!!
« on: July 15, 2007, 18:54 »
Hi everyone,
Found a very long grass snake tangled in my netting this morning, first time i have every seen one. Got chatting with this chap who said that there are loads of them on the allotment site. Anyone else had experience with them? This one got away after a bit of careful snipping on my part - amazing creature. Will have to consider using a different type of netting in the future - also a bit concerned about the fact that i have been using slug pellets - could this harm them??

I am phobic about snakes, can't even look at a picture of one. Am always scared I will see one on the lottie, as some have been spotted a few plots along.
Have to shut my mind to this now else I won't be able to go down there again

Don't toads and frogs eat slugs...

Bunch of wusses...grass snakes totally harmless. You are more danger to them than vice versa.

Beautiful creatures...cherish them too!

Doesn't matter if they are harmless - I know it is a totally illogical fear. It stops me from going abroad and I could never visit my sister who lives in Australia, I can only visit cities on holidays

I was on the marron grass at Hemsby sitting on a small bank when I looked down and saw an Adder shedding its skin. It was a warm day and I had been there for about an hour not moving just enjoying the day, so I had not scared it.I watched its struggle and when it had finished I waited until it went and picked up the skin. My niece took it to school the following week for Show and Tell..........However later I had a very itchy ankle which swelled and became painful. You guessed it an Adder had bit me.The doc said it must have been a small one.I never felt the bite at the time but the puncture marks remained visible for weeks. It was still a great privilege to see an Adder let alone watch one shed its skin. 8)
