Hi Everyone,
I have chickens and someone just asked if I wanted a peacock because they know someone who wants to give one away...Can I keep a peacock in with my chickens?  Thanks,

Dont know about any technicalities of keeping both but I know 3 people in my village who all have peacocks and hens roaming round together. Just a word of warning, they can be worse than cockerals with their noise but if that isnt a problem then fine.Their cry can be heard a good way away.! :)

we can hear peacocks that are 3 miles away and theres buildings between us and them so as is pointed out make dam sure in fact 100%positive that noise is no problem first before taking them on, i carnt see a reason they carnt be kept together but i do know they require a lot and i mean a lot of room and like to roost very high up trees.

Hi there, they had peacocks at horticultural college when I went there, and they were nothing but a pain. They would eat any veg plant going, any seedling, would bother you when you had food with you, nest in wierd and waky places, and generally were a pain. As for keeping them at home, I have seen tham kept in a massive avairy with high roosts provided for them, and they looked happy enough, but they make an incredibly loud noise, I personally think worse than a cockerel, so ask your neighbours if they would mind the noise first. Mind you I am assuming you have neighbours, you may live in a manor house, in which case go for it! Peahens are grey, and still make a racket, but not a call like the male, the male will have his tale feathers at mating time, to attract a female, then he moults them. They are also much better flyers than a chook, so a pen would have to have a roof. Cheers!
Peas out!

Our neighbour up the lane has around 25 or more peacocks/hens so you can imagin the noise (and mess) he has them along with hens, ducks all roaming free,  they are better than a guard dog.  They roost in the trees at night.
