Tomato blight in the greenhouse
« on: September 15, 2010, 21:50 »
For the second year running, the tomatoes in my greenhouse have had the dreaded blight and I am likely to get very few if any of the crop to eat.
Apart from not growing tomatoes there, how would others eradicate this problem from the greenhouse once and for all?
If I can grow things in Shetland, then you can certainly grow things where you are!

The problem is not in the greenhouse it is in the air :(

The only other thing to try is spraying with dithane.

Are you sure it's blight?

I'm not saying it's not, but I'd have thought that your location would have been the least likely in the UK to get blight.

I know that there are not blight scouts covering every square mile of the UK, but the blight map shows no outbreaks any further north than the Moray Firth
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

At what stage in the growing season would you spray with Dithane?

It is definitely blight on the tomatoes. I used to get the same problem when growing tomatoes both on my allotments and in the back garden when I lived in St Albans before I moved here two years ago.
Some of the local crofters and gardeners here have had blight on their potatoes (aka tatties here) in recent years but I have been lucky with them so far.
