Laying
« on: September 15, 2010, 19:17 »
I have 11 hens, and we only get around 3 or 4 eggs a day..
How can i get it so i am getting all my hens to lay? or at least a few more eggs?!
There all around 2-4 years old apart from one who is 6 and she is one of our best layers..
So how can i get them to lay?
thank you

What breeds are they if they are pure breeds they proberbly  won't lay everyday and if they are highbrods they are proberbly about past it Get some younger birds or except they are getting on  :)

I think it's best if layers pellets are given in the morning and then any treats given later on in the day (not too long before bed time).  It may work to cut treats out mostly for a while and stick to just layers to boost them into laying.  If they will of course, it may be that they have reached the end of their laying time although with purebred chickens you might expect them to lay for some time more. You're sure to get much more coherent advice soon from more experienced chicken keepers, good luck  ::)

Good luck whatever you decide to do  :).  I agree that it may be worth pushing the layers pellets.

They get layers mash in the morning and then corn in the after noon. And they do get some scraps if there is any. :)
