Hi,

I've just taken over the care of a blackberry/bramble bush and I've hit a question I can't find a definitive answer to but your bound to know.

My father, and some sites around, say that it dies in Winter. But I was convinced, along with several other non-gardening types I know, that it was evergreen.

So will my bramble bush die back this winter?

Thanks :D

Hi Mona,

Brambles are deciduous, so your plant will die back in the winter. Here is some more info.

I would agree with brambles being semi evergreen as it takes some very hard weather to remove all the leaves.
As for its common name being `raspberry', i think not. :D

I'd say they are less than "semi" evergeen as the majority of the leaves drop off in winter, leaving just a few.

I do agree that someone's (not Arygllie!) has got their knickers in a twist with the "raspberry" bit!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I actually wondered what the date was when I saw the question ;) then doubted my first reaction that they are deciduous. The first few sites returned on a google search, such as Wikipedia, don't mention this property of the plant at all.
