Got my first ever chooks today, one for each of us in the family - all approx 16/17 weeks old.
One each of an Isa Brown, Speckeldy, Bovan Nera and white Sussex.

Each named Jon Main, Eggory, Eggwina and Ella respectively.

First night and the speckledy in made its way into the nest box (minus straw as I didn't want any in there), the Isa Brown and Sussex perching on the ledge of the other nest box and the Bovan Nera under the perches.

I chose not to move them onto the perch as they had had a reasonably traumatic day, but will do so tomorrow.

Your girlies are beautiful, and I just love their names. Hope you dont expect to get any work done for a good while, chooks are the biggest timewasters ever!!

The black hen with the golden brown breast is a Bovan Nera - a Rhode Island Red crossed with a Barred Plymouth Rock.

well I nearly lost them all last night.
Somehow I left the main run door wide open, the poop hole was down but I was one panicky chook owner this morning....
