Hi, whilst walking in the tal-y-bont, barmouth area on holiday last week we came across a pen of very poorly looking hens.  A few were free-ranging, most shut into a very cramped space, and even a carcass outside an old hen house.  I'm trying to find out who they belong to so I can inform the authorities.  I could describe the footpath route we were walking and landmarks. Hopefully someone out there can help.  Many thanks

Why not still inform the authorities - they would be able to find out who they belong to?

Have telephoned the rspca cruelty line and tried to describe (to a very patient telephone operator!) the location.  Hoping they find them :(

some people are just in the words of morrisey "sub human" I mean I'm no tree hugging animal lover  bit why would you get an animal if you had no intention of looking after it.

Poor dears. You have done the right thing by contacting the RSPCA. I'm sure if they cannot find the hens from you directions they will come back to you for further details. Such a shame that people can neglect animals like this.

Had a call from the RSPCA today.  They have located the chooks and had spoken to the owner.  They have given advice on caring for the girls - lice, removing problem birds, hygene etc  - hopefully the visit will prompt the owner into action

Just wanted to post an update:   went to visit the chickens i had reported last year.  Pleased to say they looked a lot better, not as pampered as my girls, a bit mucky, but not in any distress

For info if anyone is in the same position again - If you don't mind shelling out £4.00 on the Land Registry site, you can do a "map search" (on the Find a Property link) to find out who owns that piece of land. Basically, find the area you need on the map, click the "Find Properties" link and it should display the post code and address free of charge, but if you want to know the owner you have to pay £4.00. If the owner isn't registered, you will still have the land reference and post code to pass onto the RSPCA.
