It has arrived.... groan
« on: September 05, 2010, 21:06 »
Well, to my dismay, it appears my tomato plants that are only beginning to ripen this past week have been hit with late blight.
I didn't have my camera with me, but i'm pretty certain it is exactly that... found two pictures that look exactly like what my plants look like (especially the one of the stem)
Also a couple of the more ripe tomatoes were covered in white mold.
They were looking healthy on Thursday
 :(

Here's the pictures:

*Sigh*

Some of the plants aren't affected yet- i removed the ones that are and brought home the green tomatoes.
They look healthy now (perfect- only green)- can they be used do you think, or should i wait to see if anything develops?

I'd turn them to chutney, fast - all thatheat & vinegar will probbaly kill off anything nasty!
You might find they're alright, give them a good wash and dry, then bung them in a drawer with a banana - good luck!!

My toms have fallen victim too. I've never lost toms to blight before, I'm assuming the weather we've had this summer is the culprit.

Know the feeling all too well. Made some chutney as soon as i picked the toms, even though I'm not keen, the rest are binned. Each year I hope I will be spared for a change. :(
