Tomato problems
« on: July 11, 2007, 17:06 »
Hi

Examining my tom plants yesterday I noticed small green bugs on the stems and some leaves and bobbly things at the foot of the plants.

Anyone give have advice what I can treat these bugs with and anyone have any ideas what these round things maybe at the bottom of the plants.

Cheers
Alan

Thanks for the photobucket link.  I forgot I had some pics on there anyway

WOW not a bad pic.  Used my mobile phone!!!

This shows the egg like things clearly.  Not sure about the green bugs because they are so tiny.

The green bug in front of the cane at soil level looks like a aphid (greenfly) to me plenty of organic ways to treat try soft soap or a garlic spray. Or you can get lots of insecticide's to deal with them just read the label carefully to make sure they are suitable for cropping plants etc.

The egg like things on the stem well at a guess I'd say they where adventitious roots forming, which are just roots that form on the stem of some plants, like ivy for instance, one looks as though it's starting to grow down to the soil below.
You can earth in fact earth up toms to make use of these roots but personally I don't bother.

Thanks for this richyrich7

I'll sort out treatment for the greenfly, and at least I won't worry about these egg kinda things at the base of these plants.  I have a couple of outdoor tom plants in my window at work (totally different to the ones in the greenhouse) and these are also deleloping the same at their base.

Thanks again
Alan
