Big onions plus a even BIGGER ONE!
« on: August 30, 2010, 22:11 »
This year I grew kelsae onions to enter in a local show and planted 20 to get 3 nice ones and left all the others still growing.
There was one imparticilar that stood out and was growing bigger than the others so i made it my baby and gave it lots of tlc

So today i decided to dig her up...... and here she is

What do you all reckon it weighs then?

The other onions below are ones i pulled up eariler and have had about 2 weeks drying

Thanks  :D

I was going to enter some of them in a village show, so you have to have a nice smooth coloured skin on them with the tops tied. If you dry em out skinned you'll get this.. see attached pic.

I have 3 to enter but the show rules say i cant enter stuff that's been enterd before,  Silly really, anyway they wont know...  :D

why thank you  :)

They are all about 1 and half lb, I grew them in a home made mini greenhouse made out of wood and plastic sheeting, It made a hell of a differance to last years attempt, I think they grow better under cover because its a spanish onion and they like a warmer enviroment

Any one guessed the wight of the big un,  come on, give it a go   :D :D  ;)

5lb 1oz But anyway well done as this is something I would love to do as mine turned to slush this year.

When you say home made greenhouse out of plastic and wood is it like the cloche things you get from B&Q as I would like do build one and try again next year to see what happens by growing them this way.
