Is it true that sweet peppers are perennial plants?

This may sound a stupid question, but I'm new to this so I'll ask anyway
If they are perennial, does this mean that after the peppers are taken off
I can leave the plants where they are in the ground, and they will produce
peppers again next year?
Do the plants have to be cut down or anything or left exactly as they are
over winter?

Yes they are perennial, but they are tender plants and frost will kill them.
They may live through a mild winter in a greenhouse, or, more reliably in a pot indoors where it's warm.
They get pruned back and kept fairly dry (a very little water now and again) and will regrow in spring when you can start watering and feeding again.

Thanks mum, mine are outside in the soil, so they wont be making it through the

This is something i didn't know , mine are in the ground outside ... i might try trimming it in the Autumn and putting a cut off pop bottle over it , you never know it might work

I'm pretty sure that the soil temperature outsidewill go much to low for them to survive........but you may prove me wrong of course

I put mine in the summer house each year and have not succeded yet in keeping one, they have gone mouldy.  Indoors would be a better bet I reckon as mum says.  And I should practise what I preach LOL.  The minute little flys start (if they do ) though its out on its ear.

These are great ideas, will dig mine up when finished and try to keep them in the conservatory over winter, although it gets quite cold in there. What sort of feed have you all been giving your peppers this summer? It's our first year of growing peppers fairly successfully.

I was thinking the same thing, dig them up, place them in some pots and bring them home.

I suppose this works with chillies too? Can only but try and see what happens.

Liquid seaweed feed - I've had fairly good crops on very poor soil.
