If you put the words 'overwinter chilli' into the site search you will find pages of posts to read.
Sorry, but I don't have time to read them for you  ;)
Bound to be lots of info there though :)

Last year I tried to overwinter several plants - not all survived (only about 40%), but the ones that did (Cayenne, Jalepeno & Pretty in Purple) got off to a much earlier start flowering and producing loads more fruit than in the first year, and of course they are ripening now whereas this year's sowings are still very much green.  That's got to be the biggest advantage.

I was told to cut the plants back in late autumn, minimal watering (just enough to keep them alive), and park them somewhere cool but frost free and "sunny" location.  The ones in the unheated greenhouse obviously did not survive the Christmas arctic spell but the ones in the unheated south facing back bedroom did better.
Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success.
Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.

We only grew one chilli plant last year and successfully overwintered it in our NE facing heated conservatory. The plant was dormant over the winter (we cut back on the watering) but started flowering earlier than those sown this year and it produced 2-3 times more chillies than last year.
I'll be overwintering more plants this year.
