I think I'm in agreement with you about feeding meat. I don't just because it doesn't sit well with me. I never have for over 15 years of hen keeping. As suggested all vegetables and fruit is worth trying. Cook potato skins. I like to thread apples, pears cabbage leaves etc onto a loop of wire and suspend it within reach. It's good exercise for the hens and is quite hilarious to watch as it swings around and they bob their heads to get the next peck in!

I love the idea of stringing up apples for them  :D  They are great fun to watch anyway!!!  I've only had them for 6 weeks and think they are fab!!!!
