Water bottle drinker. - update
« on: August 22, 2010, 20:25 »
Hi, I hope the title makes sense.

We found 3 small chooks at the market in Bayeux on Saturday who are now installed in the coop I made for them earlier in the year :-

I am not at all sure what the breed is as they were sold using the colloquial term "babette".  I'll post pictures tomorrow. There are a bantam of sorts and very pretty.

The subject of how best to provide water is vexing me somewhat and while surfing around I come across this Glou-Glou. Apologies, the site is a french one  but I think it is self explanatory.

It seems like a good idea to me as I can replace the 1.5 litre bottles easily from outside the run.

Has anyone any experience of this type of drinker? Is it a good idea or not?

many thanks

Andy

never used this sort of thing (have no run to clip one too  ::)) but it does look good - sort of along the lines of the rabbit drinking bottles.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Hi Andee, I agree with Joy, it does look good, and it would be big enough for 3 chickens.  I've got a much smaller similar one that I use for poorly chicks if I have to keep them in the cat carrier for a while.

It wold be easy to change the water from the outside wouldn't it?   :D

I'd be interested in having this for the Sablepoots as it wont take up room in their run :)  does anyone know if is it available over here?

Many thanks for all your replies. As they seem cheap and practical I have ordered 3 metal ones so that I can have 2 on the go if we go away for the weekend and 1 spare.

I'll let you know how well they work.

Cheers

You're welcome Evie, we used to get a lot of stuff from Solways, but now we get our feeders and drinkers direct from manufacturer!   :D

I have had this drinker fitted for about 2 weeks now and think that it is very successful

It takes my 3 bantams 4 days to empty the bottle if left unattended. My usual routine is to bring the bottle in at night when I close the coop and take out fresh water in the morning.

A little water is spilt when inverting the bottle into the holder but this is a minor inconvenience.

regards

Andy
