« on: August 21, 2010, 16:59 »
Hi

I've just checked my toms and found that quite a few had burst / split.  What have I done wrong??!!
Thanks in advance

Irregular watering or too much rain if they are outside.

Fully agree with gillie. All you can do now is pick them before the bugs or rot gets them. Carrots and cabbages will also split from too much water.

Nothing to worry about its just where the fruit has split, main reason from too much water which forces the fruit to swell.

pick them off and eat them all, if you can manage

A lot of my cherry toms did the same .........I just bagged them up and froze them :)

They'll go into winter stews quite nicely ;)

green finger is right.  pick off plant, pop in mouth.   I don't spray my Sungolds, so eating them straight from the plant is no prob.  Split toms are just a good reason to be greedy.

  Nice one Havengore  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thanks everyone!  We've had a fair bit of rain over the last few days so that would explain it.  Phew!  Was worried something more drastic was afoot.  I'll cook them up now I know they've not got some nasty disease!
Thanks again   :D
