Caterpillar control
« on: August 19, 2010, 18:56 »
Hi all. My sprouts all have nets over them to prevent the pesky caterpillar. But i have found hundreds of caterpillars happily munching through rows of my swede tonight!!! I have been squashing by hand for a good hour, but have most likwly missed some! Is there anything you would recommend i could spray them with to get rid?

cheers
Start at the beginning, and finish at the end!!

Are they munching the bulbs of swede or just the leaves?  If it's just the leaves I'd let them get on with it but that's probably because I love moths and butterflies.

Yes, swedes are brassicas and vulnerable... sorry, you know that already  :(

You can try spraying them with salty water, as that usually works fer me with caterpillars.  :)

You are right, caterpillar juice is a really effective skin dye.

Lemon juice might shift it though
