Howard 350 - rotor engaging
« on: August 16, 2010, 22:40 »
Hi there,

I'm looking to tap your knowledge of the Howard 350.  I have recently bought one and the engine runs fine, but the rotors 'jump' out of gear once you have engaged them.

I have taken off the top of the selector rod and can see that the teeth in the selector cog are a bit worn.  (are they meant to have an angle on one edge for engaging or should they be square?)

But looking at the selector rod - it is as if the rod is the wrong shape, as when it is in the engaged position it is hard up against the housing.  It feels like if the rod could move across a few more mils more then the rotors would engage correctly.

Has anyone experienced this and what could I do fix it.  Is it possible to get a new selector?  If so I cannot seem to find a source of parts (except ebay)

Advice / comments welcome.
