moult or something else
« on: August 16, 2010, 09:40 »
hi folks

this is my first full summer with my girls and almost all of them are looking very bold at the minute . Ive checked the coop in the day and at night and inspected the hens and theres no sign of mite or skin irritation and redness so is this purely there summer moult . One or two are at the stage of looking like battery hens so i am getting worried . All the hens have healthy appetites and so on and seem as healthy as always . hopefully you can put my mind at rest or suggest any other ideas .

thanks folks

obviously keep an eye on them but it probably is the moult - mine have started to look a bit bedraggled. I recall last year a few of them looked positively plucked!  They seem to have different patterns of loss and regrowth so will not be completely beautiful for quite some time and in the meantime it will look like a pillow fight crime scene in your garden  :)
