Dibbed leeks, bending?
« on: August 16, 2010, 09:13 »
Sorry first time gardener here!
I have planted my leeks out using the dibbing method and I notice that some are bending. they are starting to get thick and heavy now I guess thats the reason why they struggle to hold their weight.
Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to correct this? Do i just need to just straighten them out?
My leeks are in raised beds.

Thanks

In order that someone may be able to help you how deep did you "dib" the hole?  When did you put them in?

Did you also water them in when dibbing?

Not sure if it makes any difference, but when I 'dib' mine its usually to a depth of 6-8"+ :)

Andy could be right with the depth of the hole.

Try eathing them up, (like spuds), to cover up more stem to both blanch & support them.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
