« on: August 15, 2010, 08:26 »
I have been given access to a good supply of well rotten pure chicken muck  (compost)
how much should i use on the allotment, I have read 45 lbs per 100 sq feet but this does sound very thin to me , can anyone help please  .

I am moving towards a no dig system
Cheers

Pure rotted chicken muck would be very strong so I would spread it thin.  Bet you have bumper crops next year though  :D

I get a load of fresh chicken muck each fall and spread a barrow load for every 9 sq ft. Yours would be 1/3 that. And yes, be prepared for tall plants and heavy cropping.

Don't use it where you intend to grow spuds. I did once and ended up with a badly scabbed crop due to the alkalinity of the chicken muck.
