The wife wants to revamp the borders in the front garden, some things are growing in the wrong place, evening primroses self-seeded everywhere and taken over, some things she's planted never appeared, just needs a good overhaul and replanting logically, can she save some perennials to pots and replant later? where should she start and how should she go about it? Ideally, next month would be better for doing that but, having said that, I'm always digging things up if they're in the wrong place or just not striving.  The best way to do it is to make sure the plants are well watered, preferably the previous day, and to keep as much soil round the roots as possible.  Keep the pots out of the full sun for a week or two until they get settled or you're ready to replant and never let them dry out.

Yes- replant as you wish - best time is autumn for perennials as the soil is still warm enough to help them root but the sap is slowing down.

You can keep them for a good while in placcie carier bags as long as you lift with soil and keep them wet, gives you time to sort out the trouble makers
Oh.......and remember to cut the dead flowers off of the evening primroses in future
