Raised beds almost up and running ...
« on: August 03, 2010, 22:02 »
We have now built the raised beds, and a lorry load of compost/soil mix arrived today. Husband and no. 2 son have spent the whole day wheelbarrowing the compost into the beds. However, although the compost looks OK, it clearly hasn't quite finished composting: the pile of compost is giving off heat, and it's a bit whiffy too. How long before we can actually plant stuff, do you think?

If it's still giving off heat, you'd best wait until its cooler and you can put your hand into it with comfort. Otherwise your plant roots will cook on you and lots of work wasted. Wouldn't worry much if its not quite finished composting just as long as its not warm.
