Potato Variety
« on: July 04, 2007, 15:56 »
Hi, My next door allotmenteer gave me some seed potatoes which I planted on the 28th May. He did not know the variety, nor how long he got them.

They are now 12 - 18 inches tall and some have got white flowers with a yellow centre. The foliage is dark green and shaped a bit like a stinging nettle. Can anyone guess the variety, I suppose the biggest clue is the white and yellow flowers. Also when will they be ready to harvest?
Like I said some have already got flowers on, but surely they will not be ready after only five weeks!!!!

Any advice will be gratefully received.

Not easy to identify spuds from their foliage and flowers I don't think, but my earlies, both duke of York and Ulster Chieftain had white and yellow flowers.  I dug them up at 11 weeks because the foliage was looking decidely limp after all the rain, but I think 5 weeks is a bit early!!!
