flying ants
« on: August 02, 2010, 22:16 »
Just curious, Has anyone else had the flying ants today?  I obviously had more more ants nests than I thought , as there were thousands of them, its a daunting thought as to where the queen is going to lay her eggs for next year, they better not all decide to stay in the veg and fruit patch, where are those blackbirds when you need them.

we had our flying ant day about 2 / 3 weeks ago, i think it pretty much depends on where in the country you are and what the weather conditions have been like.

Ours was about two weeks ago as well.  It's amazing how they all emerged from different nests at exactly the same time.  Better timekeeping than a lot of us humans. :)

You should try the flying ants in Africa, serious monsters, enough to make you really squirm :)

We have holes in the side of our diseased Horse Chestnut and they obviously belong to flying ants as you can see them coming out when you tap it. One more reason for it to come down.
Oh for those halcyon days of England long ago

Ours were last week and they seem to nest under the floor of the house as they come from a small crack in the outside wall. A couple of years ago I sprayed round the area with 'Raid' but they found an alternative route out through the conservatory so now I just leave them alone. They look a bit scary as they mass around the hole before flying off but they don't actually bother us.
