well for once we are heading North, Scotland, thought we would go abroad this year for a change, and although everyone thought we was mad I think its fair to say they have had the least of the rain so far, that is of course until we get there, but yes, its on a hill just in case.

I have about 8 plants... hmm or is it 11.. I haven't learned from last year when 5 plants were killing me with zettes... but I had spare ground at the lottie and spare plants, so what the hell eh? I can always give them away and make people hate me

but I had a pretty dodo crop for 5 plants last year, loads of the fruit start ok, then at 2 inches long, turn yellow and die. I use tom feed to feed them with as well..

Oooh - courgettes in a hanging basket! That's a great idea!
Does it work okay?

Got a couple of baskets of tumbling toms in big baskets and they are doing pretty well so far. Pretty slug proof I guess!!!

I think so, obviously yield will be no where as neat as those grown in ground but I am short for space, her indoors is already complaining that the available space in our pocket handkerchief garden for the kids to play in is shrinking, filled with chillis, toms & chickens.

So I popped some courgettes in a hanging basket as an experiment, shares space with a few pigmy toms & some marigolds to attract pollinating insects.

I thought that the courgettes would suffer greatly with the wind but they have faired pretty well, had to replace a planting of toms (they just dissapeared).

I know - and actually I just checked and I have fifteen plants, not twelve!!!

we had 8 plants last year and could not eat or give them away quick enough (family of 4). You can only eat so much. I would pull up a few plants and get something else in there quick

I wish they'd tell you how many cpp you get on the seed packet coz i've got 4 plants AND i planted them 2 weeks apart so i'd get courettes all summer long!!!!!!!  I love them but hubby prefers marrow to courgette so i'll let a few fatten! my 2 girls will look like courgettes by the time they die off!

How long do they keep producing courgettes for? i won't be eating them for Christmas dinner will I?

P.S. Mine are in the green house

I am so DAMN excited about ANYTHING that will grow! haha!

Bring on 1000 courgettes!!!
Good beer, good BBQ and good friends.

I'm with you there!!!!! It's really exciting!!! we're just deciding what trees to put in the garden now!!! Space for 2 medium sized ones!!! Plums, cherries, apples, peach or pears!! What a choice!!!  At 25 i'm a little worried that i'm getting old before my time but my husband assures me that i'm still VERY immature!  :D (nice)

I planted two courgette plants in a raised bed with some onions.

I have so far had 10 courgettes off the two plants and their are at least another 10 small ones.  The onions are doing great too !!

Raised beds definately dry out quicker than the ground so that helps.

I grew a few last year from seed - just stuck the seeds in the ground about half an index fingers depth and had more courgettes than i could keep up with. Must have been removing 5 a week and some even grew into marrows.
A slug is for life not just for the allotment

Wildeone I have the same dilemma.  I'm 29 and have been growing fruit and veg in the garden since I was about 24.  This is my first year with an allotment and I just want to grow as much as is humanly possible.  I have a rather large crop of sugar snap peas just now with a couple of new rows starting off and I've got about 10 or so courgette plants.  At the moment I can't see how I'll get anything like 70 courgettes off each plant but I live in hope.

Incidentally if you slice your courgettes, fry them in garlic and olive oil then put them on a pizza with some tomato, mozzarella and herbs and whatever else you fancy it gives you another disposal option.
