Desiree - good reasonable sized spuds, but not in the quantity of Ambo. No holes.

Rooster - as Desiree, but small holes in a few of them.

Highland Burgundy Red - grown as a novelty spud - an impulse buy. Wasn't expecting an awful lot, so I wasn't let down. Half a dozen small to medium size spuds per root. Looking forward to pink mashed spuds!

Sarpo Mira still to come, but they're still growing.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Remarka - well remarkable last row dug were very good good yield
Red Cara excellent no marks and good size with a good yield
Picasso Only half a row this year not as good a yield as last year but no slug damge and average 7 pots per plant and they were in the driest area of the plot
Lady Balfour - very good for size and yield wish I'd done more than one row
Setanta - very good yield and size
Markies - a bit of an afterthought and were planted very close to a path only two spuds per plant but each one enough to feed 4!

Still to lift one more row Red Cara and a row of Druid

I may have slated the blue danube as I devoted two rows to them size not good  but the last row dug cooked really well a very white potato and great for mash

There's something not quite right about pink mash  ::)
It'd clash with the gravy :D

I tried growing the permaculture way with a deep mulch of straw. No earthing up. Organically too. I only watered once or twice in really dry spells.

Earlies: Anya - Have grown a few times. Very tasty. Good crop though many are very small (just take more washing)

Main: Arran Victory - A red potato. Reasonable yield and tasty but about 20% had slug damage (due to straw mulch?)

With mains the best I've done is with Sante which are recommended for organic growing.

Amorosa - Lovely small red potatoes.  Fantastic flavour, reasonable yield, and negligible slug damage.

Charlotte - One of my favourites.  Good yield and negligible slug damage.

Desiree - Just dug up so yet to taste this crop but a fantastic roaster and masher normally.  Good yield and negligible slug damage.

Remarka - Hugh potatoes (picture attached) and a good yield.  Most are too big for the two of us also virtually all with slug damage.

Rocket firsts melted in the mouth, but left in longer took a bit of a slugging
Kestrel were not as big as previous years but were still OK
Caras I'm still digging up and are happy with the results.

Just lifted the last of the Wilja for winter storage, lifted the first lot early September and the wet weather we have had has encouraged the slugs so lost a higher percentage to slug damage (still acceptable though) than those lifted 4 weeks ago.

The first two rows that I had already lifted gave a better yield and I think this is because when we had the dry spell in May  & June I soaked the first two rows every day but my hose at the time wouldn't reach the second two rows , so note to one self next year in dry spell ensure all spuds are well and truly watered.

LIfted half the main crop yesterday - Gladiator (recommended by the 'old boy' next to me). About one and a half sacks of medium to small potatoes, some scab, only on those big enough for baking, of course. Very variable cropping - some had fifteen + potatoes, others had five or six. Next year I'll try something else. Still double what I got last year, already.
Others grown - Kestrel - excellent crop, large, floury potatoes - good to boil and bake; International Kidney - pathetic, planted nine (sample pack) and got about four/ five per plant.
Recommendations for Bedfordshire? I like baked, boiled or roasted, floury rather than waxy.
Jane.

"Ambo" was the best of my crop so far. (Sarpo Mira still growing!  )

They were both the heaviest crop and the largest spuds. Exellent roast or baked.

Cara – good size tubers and I’m happy with yield (about 8 kg from 5 plants – is that good or just average?)

The only thing with them is they have quite rough scaly skins. I was expecting them to be smooth but only one tuber has any area of smooth skin at all. Is it possible that it’s scab? The scab I’m used to looks more like the second picture and is just I patches.

Anyway - they were lovely scrubbed and baked last night!

I had a good crop of Scottish salad pots earlier in the year,Brilliant crop of my foremost though had a problem with them turning green -after digging and bagging-I did not think they could go green inside a bag? This also occurred with my King Edwards! I also notice someone else had some with scabby skin-just like the photo!
