Runner Beans

Hello, this might be a really thick question, but I saw on the Great British Village Show programme on the telly last week someone was pinching some of the flowers of his runner beans, are you meant to do that? I have lots of flowers and have just let them get on with it is that right??

I usually just leave them, never heard of pinching out the flowers before, where they growing for show ? this might explain it.

Yes they were, its on BBC on Sunday and its the longest carrot, largest pumpkin type of thing.

Ahh gotta ya that explains it then. By removing some off the flowers more energy will be available to those that are left and hopefully get longer bigger pods, would also stop overcrowding and possible damage to each individual pod.

I don't know much about the show ring side of veggies but I have a friend who's not far off completing his judge training.
